Charity Shop Volunteer (Volunteer Donation Assistant - Acomb)
Do you get a buzz from discovering hidden gems in charity shops? Have some knowledge of collectibles or clothing? Or are you looking to give some time to a worthwhile cause? Perhaps you’re starting out on your employment journey but need experience to help you land a future job? Becoming a Volunteer Donation Assistant is the perfect opportunity for you!
In contrast to our Volunteer Retail Assistants, Donation Assistants are based off of the shop floor. You’ll be working in the back areas of the Acomb shop where all the magic happens. This is where we take our fresh donations and get them ready for sale. You’ll be working as part of a team to make sure we don’t miss vital gift aid sales, and can get those amazing items kindly donated by our supporters out for sale as soon as possible. It’ll be busy, processing high volumes of donations, but also rewarding and sometimes exciting – you never know what you might find!
Volunteer Donation Assistants will be located primarily in our sorting room but will work closely with our other volunteers and staff, ensuring our shops are the best on the high street for those amazing finds. Without you, our shops couldn’t run, so we want to ensure you feel welcomed and supported. You will receive full training in all retail areas, with continued development available in your volunteer journey. If you’re looking to gain confidence to get back into work, or simply want to find somewhere to make connections, we have a role for you.
Every single penny raised in our charity shop goes directly to the York Animal Home and gives vital funds to ensure they can continue helping animals in need. Without your help our shops could not run; volunteers are what make us special and we would love to have you join our team.
Your duties:
These may involve (on any given day):
- Processing donations as they enter our shop
- Sorting through books/CDs and other media
- Helping with our ecommerce and other revenue streams
- Steaming, pricing, and tagging clothing and other items to go out for sale
- Processing Gift Aid donations in our sorting room
- Restocking our shelves and making them look eye-catching
And much more…
If you’re interested please don’t hesitate to hit the apply button. If you’d like to find out more, please contact our Acomb manager, Kleo (click for email) who will be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
We operate a volunteer led scheme, where our minimum requirement is 2 hours a week, and the maximum is whatever you would like it to be! If you are looking to add experience to your CV we ask that you commit to six months with us.
