Could You Offer a Temporary Safe Haven To a Dog In Need?

We are looking for dedicated dog and puppy fosterers to provide a loving home environment for animals currently in our care.

For many dogs, kennel life can be incredibly stressful. They thrive so much better in a real home. Whether they are recovering from medical issues, coping with anxiety, nursing a litter of puppies, or waiting for the resolution of an ongoing RSPCA legal case, being in a home environment is vital for their welfare.

As a fosterer, you’ll play a crucial role in preparing these dogs for their "happy ever after," helping them build confidence and socialization skills while freeing up valuable space in our centres to save more lives.

What’s Involved?

You will look after a dog or puppy in your own home, tailoring your care to their unique (and sometimes complex) needs.

This includes:

  • Providing daily exercise, feeding, grooming, and enrichment.
  • Giving them the time, space, or extra love they need to settle in.
  • Taking them to veterinary appointments when necessary.

What We Look For:

We are seeking experienced dog owners or fosterers who understand canine behaviour.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A secure garden (ideally with a 5ft+ fence).
  • The ability to transport the dog/puppies to our Centre at least once a month.
  • Someone at home for a good part of the day (to help with potential separation anxiety).
  • Any existing resident dogs neutered and fully vaccinated within the last 12 months.
  • Plenty of love, time, and patience.

Please Note: For dogs involved in legal cases, foster durations can be unpredictable, and in rare instances, court rulings may require an animal to be returned to their owner.

How We Support You

Fostering is highly responsible, but you are never alone. The RSPCA will fully fund and supply all necessary equipment, food, and veterinary care. You’ll also receive comprehensive online training, access to wellbeing resources, and dedicated support from our staff.

Ready to Apply?

Our application process is thorough because our animals deserve the best. The online form takes about 30 minutes to complete, and will ask about your experience and home environment. Once approved, you'll join our foster roster, ready to be matched with the perfect dog when the need arises.
