Volunteer Clinic Receptionist (Cambridge)
About Us
We are Cambridge and District Branch of the RSPCA, run by a committee of locally elected volunteers, raising money locally to support our animal welfare work. As part of our operations, we run a small animal clinic for owners who are unable to afford the full cost of veterinary treatment and provide treatment for sick and injured stray animals.
The history of the RSPCA Cambridge animal clinic dates back to the 1930s, with our staff and hospital facilities provided by the University of Cambridge Veterinary School. Alongside helping animals, it is also an opportunity to use it as a teaching centre where students can see qualified vets in action.
As the RSPCA does not receive automatic funding, our volunteers play an essential role in supporting us in improving the lives of animals every day!
The Role of a Volunteer Clinic Receptionist
We are looking for several volunteer receptionists at our Cambridge animal clinic to enable us to extend our hours to help more animals whilst still maintaining social distancing.
As an overview:
- You would play a key role in welcoming visitors and callers to our centres and acting as a liaison with centre staff and volunteers.
- You would be helping new clinic clients complete paperwork to register their pets and checking proof of their receipt of benefits to ensure they are eligible.
- Carrying out administrative tasks such as updating and adding details to our computer system.
- Taking payments using our card machine.
- Promoting the work of the animal clinic in a positive manner.
What are we looking for?
- Someone whose friendly, cheerful, calm under pressure with fantastic organisational and communication skills.
- Patience and the willingness to learn is important as full training will be given, and experienced volunteers and paid staff will always support you.
- Due to the training involved, we would aim for a long term commitment and the time to be able to volunteer at least one day a week. This may be a morning session (usually 9am-12pm) but afternoon sessions are a possibility in the future.
The clinic is not very well served by public transport, so this is unlikely to be a feasible role unless you can cycle, walk or travel by car. Travel expenses will be reimbursed if needed.
How will you benefit from volunteering with us?
- You will be able to meet new people and make new friends.
- Receive training, gain experience, and learn great new skills to add to your CV.
- Volunteer in a fun environment at the heart of the local community.
- You’ll be making a huge difference to the welfare of animals!
We hope you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact this email address to apply info@rspcacambridge.org.uk. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
