Gardener (and Groundsperson, West Hatch, Taunton)

Opportunity image

Are you a keen gardener, or experienced groundsperson, or just have some hours to spare and interested in giving it a go? Could you help us keep our grounds neat and tidy, whilst also restoring and promoting sustainable and biodiverse environments, which will help nature and maximise the benefits that this brings to us and the animals we care for.

We're looking for practical volunteers with a passion for both the outdoors and animals and who can help us with various gardening and groundwork tasks such as weeding, pruning, keeping fencing tidy and clear of vegetation, leaf clearing, edging, lawn mowing, designing wildlife friendly gardens and areas, and general maintenance of garden areas and borders.

You will also be helping with projects such as preparing, restoring and enhancing habitats for wildlife rehabilitation such as our paddocks.

You could also be assisting in preparing the grounds for open days, visits and other events.

You don't need any previous knowledge or experience of gardening, just the desire to get stuck in and have a willingness to help and get your hands dirty.

You should be happy to work outdoors throughout the year (weather dependent!) and be available anytime between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm Monday to Friday, even just for a few hours each week.

If you want to keep active, make new friends, or use your skills to help others, this role might be perfect for you.

Before you start, you'll need to complete some online training courses (induction, health and safety etc), but this won't take too long and it is an easy process.

Our volunteer gardeners and groundspersons play an important role in keeping our animal and wildlife centre operational, safe and looking spick and span, helping our teams to focus on looking after the animals in our care.
