At the RSPCA we’ve been at the forefront of animal welfare since 1824 where we were founded in a London coffee shop and we’re proud to be the oldest welfare charity around. With our new strategy ‘Together for Animal Welfare’ we want to improve the lives of more animals in England, Wales, and internationally than ever before.

Our people are compassionate, inspirational, expert, act with integrity and are committed to our cause. The Archive and library play a central role in the preservation of the history of the RSPCA. This voluntary role is fundamental to the conservation of the society's history. Volunteering alongside all areas of the business to catalogue and preserve our corporate knowledge.
The scope of this role covers the full diversity of business domains across the Society, which include the Archive, Animal Science and its associated Teams and Prosecutions.
As a volunteer cataloger you’ll be primarily involved in cataloguing information, records and artefacts that are used to support the teams enhancing the use of information and preserve knowledge for generations to come.

What you'll be doing:
- Assessing items to establish contents, relevance and future historical value
- Sorting, listing a cataloguing books, journals and reports using google
- Identifying items that could be of historical value
The skills you need:
- An interest in animal welfare
- An interest in history and scientific research
- Can work methodically and with an eye for detail
- An understanding of library and archiving cataloguing standards desirable
