Volunteer Driver (Newport area)

Opportunity image

If you have your own car or van, enjoy driving and live in the Newport area this could be the ideal role for you.

Our volunteer drivers support the vital work of the RSPCA by transporting animals to and from Animal Centres, Vets, Private Boarding Establishments and Animal Hospitals as required. This frees up valuable time for our Inspectors, Animal Rescue Officers and specialist clinical staff to carry out their vital animal welfare work.

You’ll need an appropriate vehicle and be confident and competent behind the wheel. You’ll need to ensure your vehicle is maintained, taxed, has a MOT and the correct insurance cover to drive whilst volunteering for us.

Our volunteer drivers get to meet lots of different animals, RSPCA staff and volunteers, and also meet other animal care professionals in their local area.

We’ll supply any kit required to transport animals safely and we’re happy to reimburse out of pocket expenses you may incur under our mileage allowance.

Please note:

  • The role can involve long journeys (arranged in advance)
  • The role involves cleaning of animal transport equipment (infection control) and minimal paperwork (training will be given)
  • This role can only be carried out during weekdays (normal office hours)
  • Online training, a driving declaration (including proof of your insurance and MOT) and a face-to-face induction will need to be undertaken before starting the role
