Kennel Assistant
Do you love dogs? Do you have a calm and understanding nature?
Many of the dogs in our care have never experienced life in a loving, family home and many come to the centre with complex behaviour and welfare concerns requiring lots of support from the experienced staff and behaviour team. As a kennel assistant, you will play a crucial role assisting with feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining kennels to a high standard. Helping prepare enrichment for the dogs and helping to keep the general exercise areas clean and well stocked of equipment. This help is vital to the staff as it releases valued time to rehabilitate the dogs in our care hopefully making their stays shorter.
When possible, our kennel assistants may also spend time exercising and attending to the dogs care and grooming needs. All tasks will follow current administrative health and safety procedures in place at the centre. However, due to the nature of the dogs coming in, there will be times whilst dogs are being assessed, their care will primarily be overseen by experienced staff only.
You'll be working as part of a team but you will need to be able to work under minimal supervision. You'll need to feel comfortable and have some knowledge of reading dogs behaviour and also need to have the physical ability of carry out tasks, however required training will be provided.
The main bulk of the cleaning is done in the first part of the shift so availabilty from 9am onwards is the most fitting, this is weekdays and weekends alike.
You'll make friends and meet new people, caring for dogs while they wait for a forever home. It is important they are provided with the best possible care and treated with the upmost patience as many of the dogs that come into our centres have not had a loving history. Please note, we require you to be aged 18 years or over. We are situated on the Dorset/Hampshire border in the South of England.
